Do Emotions Exist? Spinoza and the Affirmation of Finitude

Saturday, 16 December 2017, 4 pm, diffrakt | centre for theoretical periphery

Workshop with Avraham Rot and Oded Fluss.

In recent years, emotions have proven a popular topic of study. But do they even exist? Do they constitute what philosophers of science call “natural kinds”? What kind of objects are they? In this workshop, we will approach these and related questions in the field of contemporary emotion research through the lens of several close readings of selected passages from the work of Baruch Spinoza.

Copies of reading materials will be circulated in advance. Since places are limited, participants are kindly asked to register via email.
