Coming from a philosophy of architecture theory and after homing in on environmental philosophy in recent years, Shinohara Masatake’s particular focus is currently on the aesthetic and philosophical means of access to a rethinking of ways of being in the world and the conditions of being human in a drastically changing human and non-human environment. Unlimitable dimensions of experience and perception are provided for and not exoticized in Nishida Kitarô’s logic of place. Beyond just declaring the necessity, the background in Nishidean and Kyōto School Philosophy allows sketches of a logic behind such modes of perception which in the modern Western tradition are generically dumped into catch-all backyards like subjectivity and the ineffable. In their conversation, Ann Cotten will ask about shifts in the translation of concepts and the function of multilinguality in forging competence for depth – a metaphor that in itself already raises questions and points to answers which are not a full stop of further reflection.
