Beginning in August 2025, SPDM have spent their Mondays listening to a collection of cassette tapes that had been hibernating at diffrakt. The collection, primarily assembled by Peter Gente, Manfred Klauß, and Heidi Paris and dating back to when the space was home to Merve Verlag, includes hand-dubbed mixtapes, bootlegged radio broadcasts, DIY releases, and recordings made inside the space.

Stored beside a broken cassette player, these tapes hadn’t been played for some time. Revisited in an era of digital circulation, they speak not only of an obsolete medium, but of a personal relationship to music through listening, collecting, and sharing.
